Time Is Now
Gloucester's history, identity and people, told by those who live it
TIME IS NOW: Museum of Gloucester - 25th October - 4th January
Three brilliant Gloucester residents, three historic communities, three extraordinary portraits by renowned photographer Emilie Sandy. Funded entirely by Voices Gloucester and facilitated by Dialect, ‘The Time Is Now’ is a unique heritage project capturing for the historical record the volunteers and community workers in Gloucester, who have worked so hard to support others in recent years.
This collaborative work, the first of its kind in Gloucester, features Emma Wilson, a community hub volunteer in Matson, Katrina Mcgonagle, a community producer based in Westgate Street, and Valerie Simms, a city councillor for the Moreland district.
These are not just pictures of individuals - using Tudor portraiture traditions, each image has been co-created with the subject and the Gloucestershire Archives to represent Gloucester’s unique history, catch an exciting moment in time right now, and represent the real people of this city for future generations.
Rich in symbolism and powerful imagery, full of our stories of place and identity, this installation is also accompanied by a series of short films, created by local documentary maker Katherine Glynne-Jones - a must see for everyone who loves Gloucester’s history and community.
The exhibition is free to visit at the Museum of Gloucester. More information here.
We hope you love it.
While you’re here…
TONIGHT is the penultimate outing of our LOST MYTHOS west country tour at Corinium Museum in Cirencester. A night of comedy, music and poetry for the ages, Lost Mythos is a parish council meeting like no other. Lost Mythos brings together Emma Kernahan’s hilarious comedy about folklore, with Mara Simpson’s divine orchestral electronica and JLM Morton’s poems of ecological grief and guardianship. It’s definitely wyrd, but we also guarantee it’ll be the warmest hug you’ll feel off any stage this winter.
